Workmanship & Preparation

How We Approach Wet-Area Waterproofing

Tiles and grout alone are not impervious to water. Long-term wet-area protection relies on the continuous waterproofing membrane system installed over the substrate beneath the tile bed.

We prepare bathroom floors, shower recesses, laundries, and wet areas across Melbourne by cleaning and priming substrates, installing waterstop angles and puddle flanges, bedding flexible bond breakers into movement junctions, and applying multi-coat liquid membranes.

Included in Our Scope

  • Substrate cleaning, moisture assessment, and compatible surface priming
  • Flexible bond-breaker and reinforcing fabric at wall-to-floor junctions
  • Waterstop angles installed at shower thresholds and doorway openings
  • Multi-coat elastomeric membrane application with full curing prior to tiling
Common Situations

When This Service Suits Your Home

  • 1New bathroom or laundry builds requiring wet-area membrane preparation
  • 2Leaking shower recesses where water has penetrated old grout and substrate
  • 3Second-storey timber subfloor bathrooms needing flexible movement protection

Common Questions

Waterproofing FAQs

Can you fix a leaking shower without removing the old tiles?

If water has already bypassed the substrate or compromised the membrane beneath the tiles, surface sealers are only temporary. For a lasting repair, we remove the affected shower base and lower wall tiles, repair the substrate, install a fresh membrane and screed bed, and re-tile.

Why are bond breakers used at wall-to-floor corners?

Wall and floor planes expand and contract slightly at different rates. A flexible bond breaker allows the elastomeric waterproofing membrane to bridge the corner and stretch over minor structural movement without tearing.

How long does the waterproofing membrane need to dry before tiling?

Drying time depends on ambient temperature, ventilation, and humidity between coats. We never rush tiling over uncured membrane; full manufacturer drying intervals are observed before laying screed or adhesive.

Do you waterproof both the shower and the main bathroom floor?

Yes. In full bathroom renovations and upper-level timber-floored bathrooms, we waterproof the entire floor perimeter as well as the full shower enclosure.
